It’s the first question a lot of people ask when menopause comes up — and the honest answer is no. Hormone therapy is one option for menopause symptoms. It is not the whole of menopause care, and it is not a requirement.
Hormones are an option, not a default
At LAC, menopause care starts with your symptoms and what you want — not with a prescription pad. For some people, FDA-approved hormone therapy is the right tool. For others it isn’t, and there’s real care either way. The decision is yours to make with us, not something handed to you at the door.
If hormone therapy is right for you
When it fits, we use FDA-approved hormone therapy in its approved forms, and we lean toward non-oral routes — a patch or gel — because for many people that’s the safer way to deliver it. We treat it like any long-term medication: a real conversation about benefits and risks for your history, a starting plan, and regular follow-up. How long you stay on it is individualized and reviewed at every annual visit — not set by a slogan.
If it isn’t — or you’d rather not
There is a real non-hormonal path. Prescription and non-prescription options for hot flashes and sleep, local treatment for vaginal and urinary symptoms, and the lifestyle levers that genuinely move the needle. “No hormones” does not mean “no help.”
It’s a shared decision, not an upsell
You will not be pushed into one protocol. No pellets, no proprietary panels, no cash program you have to buy into. Menopause care at LAC is part of your regular primary care, and the plan is built around your body and your preference.
The question isn’t “hormones or nothing.” It’s “what fits you.” Some people do best on hormone therapy, some do best without it, and the point of the visit is to figure out which is you — not to decide before you walk in.
Bring the question to your next visit.
Modern, individualized menopause care isn’t a specialty transaction — it’s part of an ongoing primary-care relationship. Bring the question to your next visit, or call us in Bakersfield.

Is hormone therapy the only thing that works?
No. Hormone therapy helps many people, but there are non-hormonal options — both prescription and non-prescription — for hot flashes and sleep, and local treatments for vaginal and urinary symptoms. The right plan depends on your symptoms, your history, and what you want.
If I start hormone therapy, am I on it forever?
No. How long you stay on treatment is individualized and reviewed at every annual visit, based on your symptoms and your current risk profile. The default is a regular check-in, not an automatic stop or an automatic continue.
Will you push me toward hormones?
No. The decision is yours, made with us. If hormone therapy isn’t the right tool for you, we’ll name the alternative and start it — there’s real care either way.
